| Peter Sankoff is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, Faculty of Law, where he has taught animal law, criminal law and evidence since 2001. Peter graduated with a BA (Broadcast Journalism) from Concordia University in 1992, a JD from the University of Toronto in 1996, and an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2005.
Peter previously worked as a law clerk for Madame Justice Claire L’Heureux-Dubé at the Supreme Court of Canada and for the Canadian federal government as an advisor on human rights matters involving criminal justice.
He has published two books and numerous articles on criminal law, evidence, human rights, and animal law. He speaks frequently on animal law issues in New Zealand, Australia, the US, Canada and Hong Kong, and has taught courses on this subject in New Zealand, Israel and Australia.
In 2008, Peter won an Assisi Award from the New Zealand Companion Animal Council for his work to promote the cause of better animal welfare in New Zealand.
