International Developments in Investigative Interviewing

International Developments in Investigative Interviewing

Edited by Tom Williamson, Becky Milne and Stephen P Savage

CONTENTS

This book examines international developments in investigative interviewing, in particular the moves that are being made away from a particular interrogation model with its emphasis on persuading suspects to confess, to an approach where the emphasis rather is on a search for the truth and the collection of complete, accurate and reliable information.

The book analyses the miscarriage of justice cases and other factors leading to this paradigm shift in a number of countries, and considers issues that are of current interest to practitioners and academics, including the continuing calls for the use of torture; whether it is possible to detect deception; and the contribution of investigative interviewing methods to concepts of therapeutic and restorative justice.

International Developments in Investigative Interviewing also responds to the recognition that there are currently no international human rights instruments that relate specifically to custodial questioning.

Essential reading for practitioners designing and delivering investigative interviewing training programmes as well as academics and students studying international criminal justice.
