Abstract from Volume 9 (2000)
Capitalism, Gay Identity and International Human Rights Law
Kristen L Walker
Kristen Walker uses themes identified by well-known gay activist and commentator, John D'Emilio, to interrogate international human rights law on sexuality. Using themes of capitalism and globalisation, the ideological role of the family and D'Emilio's critique of identity categories, Walker criticises the current direction of international law on sexuality with its focus on immutability and formal equality, and instead proposes a broader vision of rights based on sexual self-determination.
